Overview
The Ferris State University wireless network on the main campus is accessible to all faculty, staff, administration, and students. It is currently available within many buildings, including the common areas of the residence halls.
Prerequisites
You must have a Ferris computing ID and password to access WiFi (Bulldogs_Guest is the exception) at Ferris.
Note: When searching for available public networks, be sure you connect to a supported network device. Ferris access points are named the same throughout campus for quick identification. Use the Bulldogs SSID for laptops and other mobile devices.
Resolution
Select an SSID to learn more about connecting to it.
Intended for all staff, faculty, and students and should be the primary network for campus connectivity.
Bulldogs will utilize your Active Directory, (AD) credentials for authentication; simply enter your AD username and password, trust the certificate if prompted, and you will be connected to the Bulldogs wireless network.
Intended for campus guest users and authenticates users.
The password matches the SSID and is case-sensitive.
Intended for Internet of Things (IoT) devices that are not compatible with 802.1x authentication, (The Bulldogs SSID uses 802.1x authentication).
To connect to Bulldogs_Devices
- Choose the Bulldogs_Devices SSID, and you will be forwarded to a captive web portal page.
- Register with a username, email, and cell number that will be used for the login notification process.
- After you register, you will receive an email and SMS message with a random key.
- Return to the Bulldogs_Devices SSID, enter the same username and the key in the password space provided, and your device will be connected.
For students in on-campus residence locations
- Registration not required
- Ferris username or password not required
- No registration required for gaming devices
- Access to Canvas, Ferris 360, and the Internet
- Secure (encrypted)
- Case-sensitive password: (FSUatHome)
Note: Devices taken to academic areas need to be registered on the Bulldogs SSID. (e.g. laptops or mobile devices).
Unsupported Networks
Warning! While searching for a wireless network, you may come across some unsecured connections; the names will likely be Linksys, D-link, or Workgroup. Due to security concerns, the University does not support any unsecured connections. Be advised that the use of an unsecured network by a person other than the network owner is considered by some branches of law enforcement as illegal.
