If an academic program requires or a student desires to purchase an Apple device, these can be purchased directly through the Apple Education Store at a discounted rate. Students will need to complete the purchase using their Ferris.edu email address to qualify for the discounted pricing. IT Services has provided recommendations for technical specifications below.

Only recommended if the academic program suggests or requires macOS. Good for email, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint ONLY), Internet use, lightweight software applications (i.e. Adobe Reader, iTunes).

For programs using resource intensive software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, few Autodesk (see Mac-compatible applications), and game design applications, IT Services strongly suggests verifying the applications required are compatible with macOS.

Estimated shipping is approximately 2-3 weeks.
*Please check with your academic department to confirm Operating System requirements as they may use programs which specifically require either Windows or Mac. Chromebooks and similar browser-based computers do not meet this standard.
**All personal computers will provide this by default. If your computer is owned by your employer or other entity, you may not have an Administrator account.
