Steps to disable IPv6 in Windows  and Mac OSX.

Prerequisites

Windows or Mac device that is having issues connecting to the Ferris Network

Resolution

Turn Off IPv6 Mac OSX

  1. Choose Apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferencessystem preferences
  3. Click Network
    • If the Network Preference is locked, click on the lock icon and enter your Admin password to make further changes.
    • Click Unlockunlock

  4. Choose Wi-Fi.wifi settings
  5. Click Advance, then click TCP/IP.
  6. Click on the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu and verify it is set to Offdisable ip6
Note:  If there is no option to turn off IPv6 open the Terminal app and do the command networksetup -setv6off "Wi-Fi" or networksetup -setv6off "Ethernet"

Turn off IPv6 Windows Device

  1. Click the Start button, Search Network Connections and click View Network Connections 
  2. Right click Properties on the wired and or wireless adaptor.
  3. Clear the check box next to the Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) component in the list under This connection uses the following items box.ipv6
  4. Click OK when done. 
  5. To re-enable IPv6, tick back the check box.
