Overview

If you change your Office 365 password while working remotely, your Ferris computer may require you to use your old password until you reconnect to the Ferris network. You can use the VPN connection on your computer to reconnect to the Ferris network if you will not be visiting the main campus anytime soon.

Prerequisites

  • Windows PC.
  • A network connection from an off-campus Location.
  • The old password (or last successful password) to log into the computer most recently.
  • An employee account with access to the VPN service, such as VPN Capsule or vpnext.ferris.edu.
  • The new password for unlocking the computer and verifying its functionality after the process is completed.

Resolution

Please Note: For this process to work it is essential to verify that the computer is located off campus.
  1. Verify that the computer is located off campus and connected to the internet.
  2. Log into the computer with the last successful password used to log into the computer with.
  3. Install VPN if needed and log in.
  4. When prompted, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and the Lock button or manually press Windows key + L on the keyboard to lock the computer.
  5. Unlock the computer with the new password.
  6. Reboot the computer.
  7. Verify that the new password works.
  8. If the old password doesn't work, you will need to bring the laptop to campus, connect to the Ferris Network and log in with the current credentials in order to cache the log in password
