Set-Up Microsoft Outlook & Teams (Android Devices)

Overview

Instructions on how access your Ferris Office 365 account in the Outlook and Teams apps on an Android device.

Prerequisites

Android device and Ferris Office 365 account.

Resolution

Note: Please bear in mind that not all Androids are the same. Some settings may differ from your Android device but they should be similar to the ones referred to in this guide.

Manual Setup

First, make sure you are connected to a WiFi network, preferably a secure one.

  1. Open your Android's Email app.
    • If you're new to the Email app, continue to the next step.
    • If you already have an account set up, go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Add account.
  2. Tap Office 365.
  3. Enter your Microsoft 365 email address and tap Next.
  4. You might need to choose your account type as Work or School to continue. Enter your Microsoft 365 Password, and tap Sign In.
  5. If your admin enabled multi-factor authentication (MFA), verify your account or set up the Authenticator app.
  6. Permit Samsung Email to access your email account. Select the checkbox next to Consent on behalf of your organization and tap Accept.
  7. The Email app automatically checks your settings. Under Manual setup, tap Done. You can come back and edit these settings at any point.
  8. Edit your Account name (if you want) and tap Done. This name is visible to recipients when you send email, so you might want to use your business name here.

Outlook Application Setup

  1. Open the Google Play Store application on your device.
  2. Search for "Outlook" and locate the Microsoft Outlook app in the store.
  3. Download and install the app on your device.
  4. After it has been installed, tap the Outlook icon to launch the app.
  5. Tap Get Started if this is your first time.
  6. Otherwise, to add another email account, tap the Menu button (upper left corner) > Settings > Add Mail Account > Add an email account.
  7. Outlook may detect other accounts on your device. If you don’t want to add these accounts, tap Skip These Accounts.
  8. Enter your username@ferris.edu address and Ferris passphrase to sign-in.
  9. Once you have authenticated, you will be able to access and interact with your email, calendar, and contacts through the application.
  10. If multi-factor authentication is enabled, verify your identity.

Teams Application Setup

  1. Open the Google Play Store application on your device.
  2. Search for "Teams" and locate the Microsoft Teams app in the store.
  3. Download and install the app on your device.
  4. After it has been installed, tap the Teams icon to launch the app.
  5. Enter your username@ferris.edu address and passphrase to sign in.
  6. Once you have authenticated, you will be able to chat, video conference, and perform other Teams functions.
