Process to Change Preferred Name

Overview

The Ferris admissions application asks you to provide your preferred (first) name if it is different than your legal name. If your display name appears as anything other than what it should be, for example, a parent name or your last name twice. Here is what you can do if you entered the wrong information in the field and it was imported into your official student record.

Resolution

You can update the information yourself in your student academic dashboard. You may also reach out to the Registrar's Office or the IT Solution Center for assistance.

How to Update Your Student Academic Dashboard

  1. Go to the site to Verify/Update Personal Information and log in with your Ferris account.
  2. Select Edit for the Personal Details section.
  3. Update your Preferred First Name. 
  4. Select Update.
